What’s the difference between the K-Supreme, K-Supreme Plus & K-Supreme Plus SMART?
Keurig is known for making quality coffee machines and these 3 are no different. All of these machines use a new technology called “MultiStream Technology”. This means that the machine now punctures the k-cup with 5 needles instead of 1. This gives you a more even extraction and a better flavor and aroma.
We will get into their specific features more below, but here’s a simple overview of the main differences to give you a better understanding.
K-Supreme
The Keurig Supreme offers high-quality coffee without worrying about too many options and settings. It comes with a fixed strength setting and an “over ice” setting to make iced coffee. A cool feature is that the water reservoir can be either on the left or on the backside. This is NOT possible on the Plus & Plus SMART.
Perfect for very casual coffee drinkers.
K-Supreme Plus
The Keurig Supreme Plus is an upgraded version of the regular Supreme. This coffee machine gives you more control over things like the strength and temperature of your coffee and comes with a bigger water reservoir. It also has 3 presets that you can use to program your favorite settings and you’re able to serve 4oz, which is NOT possible on the regular K-Supreme.
Perfect for regular coffee drinkers that want more control over their brew.
K-Supreme Plus SMART
The Keurig Supreme Plus SMART is a “smarter” version of the K-Supreme Plus and has everything the K-Supreme Plus offers. This machine offers even more control over the strength and temperature of your coffee. It’s called a “smart” version because of a new technology called “BrewID”, this technology scans the code of the k-cup you’ve inserted and adjusts the machine’s settings to the most appropriate for that brew.
It also comes with a lot more connectivity features that are used with wifi and the Keurig App. Because of this, you can even ask Alexa to make you a cup of coffee when you just woke up in bed, as long as there’s a cup underneath the machine and a k-cup inserted.
Perfect for serious coffee drinkers that don’t mind all the technical connectivity that comes with it.

An In-Depth Look Into The Features
Let’s go a bit more In-Depth about the machines and their features
MultiStream Technology
This technology was introduced in the regular K-Supreme. It’s a method where 5 puncture needles are used instead of 1. This gives you a more even extraction and thus more flavor and aroma. All of the machines use this technology so that comes in handy!
Winner: All
Dual Position Water Reservoir
One of the things that are unique to the regular K-Supreme is that you can either position your water reservoir on the left or on the back. But the reservoir is looser on this device than on its competitors, where it’s a lot more sturdy.
Winner: Keurig Supreme
BrewID technology
This technology scans your code on the inserted k-cup and adjusts the machine’s settings to the most appropriate for that brew. It’s a really nice feature that a lot of people like but it’s not necessary unless you’re very serious about coffee. It’s only available on the SMART version.
Winner: Keurig Supreme Plus SMART
Strength settings
The strength settings are used to control the water flow. The longer the water stays in contact with the coffee, the more flavor and aroma you will get.
The regular K-Supreme only comes with 1 strength setting, while the Plus comes with 3 and the SMART even with 5.
Winner: Keurig Supreme Plus SMART
Temperature settings
The temperature settings are used to control… The temperature. Lower temperatures result in a more prominent acidity and less bitterness, but also less body and sweetness. Higher temperatures help increase body and sweetness, at the cost of introducing more bitterness and slightly reducing acidity.
The regular K-Supreme has 1 temperature setting, while the Plus comes with 3 and the SMART with 6.
Winner: Keurig Supreme Plus SMART
Serving Size
Serving size is important. The K-Supreme goes from 6-12oz, while the Plus and SMART go from 4-12oz. Something I’ve noticed is that all of the machines are very good at measuring how much you selected. For example, if you want 8oz, you will get exactly 8oz, nothing more, nothing less.
Winner: Keurig Supreme Plus & Keurig Supreme Plus SMART
Water Reservoir
We’ve noticed a difference in the reservoirs on the machines. The regular K-Supreme uses a 66oz reservoir and is not that stable, it’s a bit wonky but not to the point where it will fall off the machine. The K-Supreme Plus & SMART uses a 78oz reservoir and is very sturdy, you can feel that it won’t fall off at all and it is nicely placed onto the machine.
Winner: Keurig Supreme Plus & Keurig Supreme Plus SMART
Value For Money
All of them are fantastic options but when it comes to the price we think the K-Supreme Plus is the overall better option. The K-Supreme offers too few options for the price, and the SMART has a lot of unnecessary things that most people won’t use, yet has quite a big price increase.
Winner: Keurig Supreme Plus
User-Friendliness
Keurig machines have always been easy to use and all of these Supreme machines are no different. Just insert a k-cup, place your mug underneath and brew. It’s that easy.
K-Supreme
Simple Buttons – The buttons on the machine are easy to understand and it will be hard to get confused by them
Removable Reservoir – Refilling the reservoir is incredibly easy and doesn’t need much cleaning at all. Something to note is that the reservoir on this machine is replaceable. It can be either on the left or on the back, so it can fit your kitchen’s needs.
Indicator Lights – The Indicator warnings are there to tell you when to refill the reservoir or descale. All of the machines also use up all of the water before it needs refilling. It won’t tell you to refill when you have enough for a cup, which a lot of machines do.
K-Supreme Plus
Simple Buttons – Of course the buttons are very simple and easy to use. It’s a Keurig machine after all. You do get an extra button here for 4oz measurements.
Removable Reservoir – Just as the K-Supreme, this reservoir is easy to refill and use. It’s a lot more sturdy and it holds 78oz instead of 66oz.
Indicator Lights – The Indicator warnings are there to tell you when to refill the reservoir or descale.
Strength Settings – This machine gives you control over your water flow. By using this you can make it either stronger or weaker, depending on your preference. It comes with 3 strength settings and is very simple to use.
Temperature Settings – It comes with 3 temperature settings which are very simple to use.
Display Screen – It has a small display screen where you can adjust your strength & temperature settings and is easy to use.
K-Supreme Plus SMART
Simple Buttons – Easy to use buttons that feel good.
It comes with 5 strength settings and is very simple to use.

Display Screen – It has a small display screen where you can adjust your strength & temperature settings and is easy to use.
Connectivity – It’s very easy to connect to the wifi and use the Keurig App. You can also use Alexa to make you a cup of coffee with this machine. The question is here if you really need all of that.
Brew Quality
Honestly, you can’t go wrong with the brewing quality in any of them. They will give a tasty drink every single time. This is mainly due to the new MultiStream Technology which gives you an incredible flavor and aroma.
Having control over your temperature and strength settings is a nice touch if you want to go for a more specific brew. We can’t forget the Iced coffee feature since it’s actually very nice to use on a hot day and tastes fantastic!
Cleaning & Maintenance
All the machines go through the same cleaning & maintenance process. The reservoir can be removed to clean separately, which comes in handy. The device also reminds you to descale after 250 brews.
Descaling is quite simple too. It involves brewing water until the descaling light turns off. By heating the water continuously it cleans the inside components, thus removing coffee stains and other nasty things in there. This ensures the machine works optimally.
The Bottom Line
These devices are quite similar to each other but have a huge price difference. That’s why our pick goes to the K-Supreme Plus. You get some neat settings to adjust your brew and you’re not paying much more than the regular K-Supreme.
We do think the regular K-Supreme is better if you just want to brew a tasty cup and don’t want a bunch of settings to adjust your drink.
We don’t think the K-Supreme Plus SMART is worth it unless you will use all of the connectivity features, which most people won’t.
