3 Best Coffee Grinders For One Handed People

This is our review of the best one-handed coffee grinders.

Coffee grinders are a convenient and fast way to get ground beans but what are the best coffee grinders that you can use with one hand? This is a question that I recently came across and it made me want to help these people.

I found the Breville Smart Grinder Pro the best overall grinder for one-handed people. It has all the grind settings you can imagine and all the features can be executed using one hand.

Let’s get started.

Our Best One-Handed Coffee Grinders

Whether you only have one hand or are using your other hand to hold your baby, these are the best options for you out there.

  1. Breville Smart Grinder Pro (Best overall grinder which feels like it has been made for one-handed people. It also comes with 60 grind settings which give you full control.)
  2. Baratza Encore (Best one-handed grinder on a budget, but might need 2 hands from time to time.)
  3. Fellow Ode Brew Grinder (Fancy grinder that only requires one hand. But it lacks fine grind sizes if you want something like espresso.)

3 Best Coffee Grinder For One-Handed People Reviewed

1. Breville Smart Grinder Pro

  • Serving: 50 cups
  • Material: Stainless Steel
  • Grind operation: Automatic
  • Grind size settings: 60 settings

We’re starting off with the Breville Smart Grinder Pro which is my personal recommendation if you have one hand available but are still looking for fast, consistent grinds with all the grind sizes you could ever wish for.

This device makes you feel in absolute control with the 60 grind settings, from very coarse to very fine, it has it all.

The easy-to-remove grind tray is held by a magnet, this way it’s easy to remove with one hand as well and it prevents the overflowing of ground beans.

And yes, the bean hopper can be easily removed with one hand. When removed, it closes off the bean flow, this means you can even get rid of the bean hopper without your beans spilling everywhere.

It has everything you need and it feels like it’s almost made for one-handed people. You can truly do everything with this machine with one hand.

Any Flaws?

When it comes to the flaws there are not many. The only thing I can think of is that the knob to change the grind size is on the right side of the machine, so if you have to use your left hand it might feel awkward but you shouldn’t have to change that much at all depending on what grind you are looking for.

Pros ✅Cons ❌
Easy to use
Very consistent grind
Quiet because of the stainless steel
Clean design
Easily removable bean hopper
Fast grinds
Knob to change grind size is on the right side of the device

If you’re looking for fast and consistent grinds and want full control over your grind size then this is for you. It’s also very easy to use with one hand once it’s set up. I personally think this is the best coffee grinder you could get if you either have a single hand or are doing things with the other one, such as holding a baby.

2. Baratza Encore

  • Serving: 22 cups
  • Material: Plastic
  • Grind operation: Automatic
  • Grind size settings: 40 settings

The Baratza Encore will be the most budget-friendly option out there when it comes to coffee grinders you can use with one hand.

It comes with 40 grind settings which can handle coarse to fine grinds and anything in between.

It’s consistent and easy to use which comes in handy (no pun intended).

Changing grind sizes might be a bit of a struggle as you will have to change it by rotating the bean hopper. Cleaning the machine might need 2 hands to maintain the machine properly. Something slightly annoying is that the button to turn it on is on the right side of the machine, this can be inconvenient for people that are using their left hand.

Pros ✅Cons ❌
Easy to use
Very consistent grind
Clean design
Removable bean hopper
Fast grinds
Changing grind size could be a problem
Cleaning might require 2 hands
Knob to turn on the machine is on the right side
Loud because the device is made out of plastic

This is perfect if you don’t mind a bit of noise, are using your right hand, and if you still want a lot of grind settings. It’s not the most one-hand friendly but it’s still very doable. It’s my second most recommended coffee grinder if you only have one hand to use and are not a fan of the Breville Smart Grinder Pro.

3. Fellow Ode Brew Grinder

  • Serving: 8 cups
  • Material: Aluminum
  • Grind operation: Automatic
  • Grind size settings: 11 settings with 31 total steps

For sure the most aesthetically pleasing to look at. A beautiful design and matte black color. This conical burr grinder was highly anticipated on Kickstarter but does it live up to the hype?

It is for sure the quietest grinder on the list but comes with a hefty price tag.

It has a grind guide chart on the inside of the top lid where it has the options for: Prismo, Cupping, AeroPress, Pour-Over, Electric Coffee Maker, French Press, and Cold Brew.

Don’t be afraid your catch cup is not in the right spot, because underneath the cup is a magnet that pulls the cup into place right under the chute every time.

What’s the catch?

Honestly, I haven’t been able to find many negative reports about this. The only one I was able to find is that it does not grind fine enough and most people agree on it. So if you’re looking for more grind options then I recommend the Breville Smart Grinder Pro.

Pros ✅Cons ❌
Easy to use
Easy to clean
Very consistent grind
The quietest grinder on the market
Beautiful design
Removable cup
Fast grinds
Grind is not fine enough
Device is more aimed at pour overs instead of fine espresso

Fast, consistent grinds, super quiet and a beautiful design. What else do you need? The Fellow Ode Brew Grinder is perfect for specific grinds but has a hefty price tag. The only downside is it can’t grind fine enough for drinks like espresso.

What Are One-Handed Coffee Grinders?

One-Handed coffee grinders are coffee grinders that you can mostly use with one hand. So either if you only have one hand or are doing things with the other one, the coffee grinders I mentioned are the easiest-to-use devices with one hand.

This means they can be used, cleaned, maintained, etc. with one hand. You might need 2 hands to set it up but once that’s done, you won’t have to worry about it anymore.

My Coffee Grinder Moves When I Use It With One Hand

As with all coffee equipment it’s recommended to get an anti-slip mat. I recommend one that can absorb liquids as it’s easy to spill coffee, such as this Mimore coffee-bar mat.

Don’t forget to pick a size that fits your needs, you don’t need a big anti-slip mat if you will only have your coffee grinder on it.

The Bottom Line

There are not many coffee grinders that allow you to use only one hand. I found the Breville Smart Grinder Pro the best option for one-handed people. If you either don’t have a hand or are holding your baby then this is simply the most convenient and budget-friendly option out there. It has features that can all be performed with one hand while still being a consistent, fast device. With 60 grind settings, you can brew whatever you want by simply rotating the knob on the right side of the machine.
